Get Down With Dede Folefo of Dede’Signature.

It’s undeniable that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder but for renowned makeup-artist Dede Folefo, beauty goes far beyond appearances. As a leading makeup artist for over four years, Dede has a mission to defy archaic beauty standards and usher in a new era of self-expression, starting with her eponymous brand DEDE’Signature. Dede Folefo who hails from Lebang in Fontem Lebialem Division in the Southwest Region of Cameroon started her career by doing makeup for upcoming models, artists and of course family and friends. She is well known in the Cameroonian community in the US where she is based and in Cameroon where she worked with famous faces in the entertainment industry. The launch of her 3D Mink Luxury Lashes Collection will better solidify her place in the beauty arena as she now has a unique product that best expresses beauty as she knows it. The 3D Mink Luxury Lashes Collection has four different lash models depending on your personality, mood and preference. These are: Flaunt me, Showstopper, Buzzy and Eleganza. Dede’s makeup style is keen on eye details and her generous use of bold eyeshadow colours make her work stand out.

FabAfriq Magazine caught up with the beauty entrepreneur as she opens up about beauty, makeup, her new lash line, family and the move to entrepreneurship.

FabAfriq Magazine: Tell us a little about life as a makeup artist?

Dede Folefo:  Life as a makeup artist for me is just about trying to perfect my skills each time I get the opportunity to. Moreover, MUA is not my full-time job, being a Registered Nurse is. So, I use my free time to practice more and meet up with my makeup appointments.

FabAfriq Magazine:  What inspired you to start up a career in makeup artistry?

Dede Folefo: I got inspired by movies. Each time I watched a movie with professional makeup looks, I felt the urge to recreate what I saw. I was curious about how good and pretty movie stars looked and I wanted to look like them. (lol)

FabAfriq Magazine: The use of makeup and how beauty is perceived is an ongoing debate in society today. In your opinion, how can we combat this issue and break down these archaic standards?

Dede Folefo: Makeup to me is a beautiful art of beauty enhancement. People just worry too much about this makeup thing. To me, we cannot combat the archaic mentality some people have about makeup. I will keep praying for their ideas to change from negative to positive and view makeup as a beautiful passion.

FabAfriq Magazine: You recently launched a 3D Mink Luxury lash collection for every woman. What’s been the most rewarding part about launching your own lash brand?

Dede Folefo: The mention of DEDE’SIGNATURE 3D MINK LUXURY LASHES melts my heart. (laughs).  This release is one thing that has given me so much fulfilment this year. The most rewarding thing about these lashes to me is the fact that I get to wear the most natural human fur lashes (wear up to 25 to 32 times) at a very affordable price. My 100% 3d mink eyelashes lovers can tell you how costly it is to get these kinds of strip lashes.

FabAfriq Magazine: What’s been the most challenging thing about running DEDE’Signature brand?

Dede Folefo: People love to look good but do not want to spend to look good: this is my biggest challenge. People don’t understand that the products you use on them are costly and qualitative.

FabAfriq Magazine: We noticed your makeup style pays more attention to details around the eyes. Can you tell us more about this?

Dede Folefo: (Smiles) I own a lash Line and so I have to pay more attention to eye details so as to show everyone the stuff I’m made up of. But hey! I really love paying attention to skin finishing as well.

FabAfriq Magazine: Dede is a wife, a mom, a full-time nurse, a makeup artist and recently an entrepreneur. How do you manage these many roles and make it work for you?

Dede Folefo: Oh my, you don’t want to know. It is so challenging! Being a wife is the easiest of all because hubby understands perfectly. Being a mom, hahaha, my little princess just wants to be glued to me and so I have to back her (the African style) sometimes to do some makeup jobs and to work on my lashes since my studio is at home. As a nurse, I love nursing because I get to be part of people’s difficult moments and play the role of putting smiles on their faces.

FabAfriq Magazine: Can you share with us what the next phase of Dede’s signature will be?

Dede Folefo: Stay tuned for more surprises!!

Thank you FABAFRIQ MAGAZINE for this interview session, I am most honoured.
